STOP THE TERROR LAW
STOP UNDERMINING DEMOCRACY

Løslad Lars og Rune
FREE LARS and RUNE

The two painter activists, who poured red paint over Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen and Foreign Minister Per Stig Møller's suits, March 18 in the Parliament House (Folketing), have been jailed since on remand (in isolation cells).
When the trial against Lars Grenaa (23) and Rune Eltard-Sørensen (22) begins, on May 27, they will have been jailed 2½ months. This is a violent hardening of punishment against political activism. Long imprisonment-also before trials-is an attack against the anti-war movement. The state is determined to crush the strong protests against the illegal and brutal aggressive war against the Iraqi people.

DENMARK JOINS THE ILLEGAL WAR

MARCH 18: The Prime Minister and Foreign Minister are about to announce their decision to make war alongside the Bush government. Realizing this, the two activists conduct their creative action by pouring symbolic blood on the war criminals.
For the first time since 1864, Denmark actually declares war against another nation, and one which has not attacked it-a "preventive" war is underway, a war against the United Nations Charter and the wishes of the UN Security Council.
They publicly base their war on a lie that the Iraq government is a threat to Denmark and the USA, and claim that Iraq possesses hidden mass destructive weapons.
The majority of Danes had several times expressed their opposition to war preparations. Tens of thousands of Danes, along with tens of millions the world over, had demonstrated against these aggressive plans. Three days after the creative protest, the government wins a narrow majority in the Parliament (only one-third the members were present for the vote; only a third of the politicians voted for the war). This decision without precedent breaks completely with Danish political tradition. The government's aggressive and illegal action sharpens divisions and thus untraditional responses are natural and required.
The symbolic "bloody" action flashes around the world, making visible the majority's opposition. The action was non-violent, having nothing to do with terrorism", as many politicians and much of the mass media claimed in an effort to frighten us all.

POLITICAL PRISONERS

The warring state apparatus reacts violently against Lars and Rune, as if theirs was a terrorist action. The States Minister has since been guarded day and night by 15 policemen, despite the police association's misgivings. This behaviour is out of proportion both to former practice and the nature of the case.
Earlier, when the Prime Minister was hit on the neck by an egg, during a protest happening in a part of Copenhagen, the activist was sentenced to 14 days in jail. Now, the prosecution seeks a long sentence (as much as 7½ years). The state wishes to implement their new terror law, inspired by Bush`s "Patriotic Law". It wishes to stop our democratic protests against its undemocratic death machine - even when it goes to war in violation of the UN Charter and the Security Council´s decisions.
This case is a principled one for all opposed to aggressive wars, for all democracy-loving people. If the state gets its way, our ability to exercise our democratic rights in the future will be severely reduced.
The state's argument for isolation jailing on remand is based on what it calls "infringement of the popular sense of justice", if they as is normal would be out of jail awaiting trial. Punishment before judgment is the true infringement. It is a fundamental violation of our rights in a constitutional state that Denmark now has political prisoners.
